By Mea Lashbrooke on behalf of the Princess Vlei Forum.
It is with great sadness that we heard of the death of Kim Broadbent, on Saturday 19th July, 2014. Always cheerful, Kim was a loyal supporter of Princess Vlei, and came to our events in rain or shine. Diagnosed with cancer less than a year ago, Kim remained optimistic, the light of any gathering and was unwavering in her faith. Kim spent her final days at home In the care of her two best friends. She embraced the process of dying with as much lightness of spirit and intelligent interest as she did every experience in her colourful life. Kim rescued animals, hugged children and always had time for listening deeply to anyone’s problems. When she learnt of the threat facing Princess Vlei, she did not hesitate to stand up and protest. Kim’s love for the outdoors, for birds and flowers, drew her into the wild as often as possible. In 2012, Kim accompanied members of the Princess Vlei Forum on a hike to Elephants Eye Cave, from where there is a clear view of Princess Vlei, and, where legend has it, a princess once lived. We will greatly miss her insight and passion. Our deepest condolences go to her family and friends.

Hi dearest Mia, THANKYOU for this wonderful obituary , she did absolutely passionately do everything she did with such love and care and concern. She sent me a few of these photos, and it's lovely to see others of her smiling face! Thoroughly enjoying herself. Also to mention that I was with her for her last days, as was Suze ,which was such a joy. I had flown out from the UK to spend a week here at Coppull , but ended up at the hospital instead! Even then she was being feisty and ordering us all around! We had many laughs! It was such a blessing to be with her during this sad sad time. It's still all very surreal. I miss her so much, as does everyone who had the joy of spending time with her ! Sister Pippy

We will definitely miss the light that was her life. I think that we can really use her as an inspiration for others who want to do whatever it is that they want in life. I think that if we are able to do that, then her life would be a lot better. I know that she wants to live a lot longer, but that is not what God wanted. We need to do whatever we can while we are still alive.

Hi Pip, this is random I know. I am very sad to read of the passing of Kim. I believe we were classmates many many years ago, if indeed she went to Hershall High in Claremont. My name was Penny Pearson at the time and I remember Kim fondly during the time I was at school there even though it was only for a year and a half. My Dad was seconded there whilst in the Uk navy. Anyway, my best wishes and sorry for your loss albeit it was some time ago. Time does not always heal does it. Kind regards, Penny

Thanks so much for this lovely tribute to Kim. What an amazing woman she was, and how priviledged I was to help nurse her to the end.

Despite distance and differences, we shared so many things in common. Kim and I shared so many wonderful times together in laughter, tears, irreverance and joy, in South Africa, England and Canada. She was feisty, opinionated, tolerant and always interested in the stories others had to tell. I was indeed fortunate that Kim made the long trip to Canada to say farewell to those she loved here just weeks before she died. The death of a dear friend, especially one of 52 years duration, is very hard to bear. Although I already sadly miss our frequent communications by email and Skype, I can only say her memory is vibrant and I am a better person for knowing her and this is a better world for having her.
