The photographs above record some of community consultation processes that formed part of the Imagine Princess Vlei campaign. The ideas that emerged through these were presented to the City in 2014 and helped to guide the City's Draft Concept Development Framework for the Greater Princess Vlei area. The City has completed a Draft Concept Development Framework for the Greater Princess Vlei area, and proposes to hold an Open Day to enable members of the public to view the plan and comment on it.
The Open Day will be at the Retreat Civic on 20 August from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm. The plans will be presented, and City Officials will be available to answer questions and record responses. This will be followed by a Princess Vlei Forum General meeting to discuss the plan in depth on 27 August from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm at the LOFOB Hall (Corner of Klip rd and First Rd, Grassy Park). We hope to have City representatives at that meeting to take note of people's responses. We will also make the plans available on our website after the Open Day. The City's Concept Development Framework sets out the overall vision for the development of the Greater Princess Vlei Area into a natural recreation site, and was drawn up with the consideration of various documents and stake holders. These include the views of the local community, gathered by the Forum through several workshops, surveys and meetings, and encapsulated in a document that was presented to Deputy Mayor Ian Neilson on 22 March 2014. The document, entitled Imagine Princess Vlei: A Community Vision, can be downloaded here. The Princess Vlei Forum is motivated by two important principles - firstly, ensuring the transformation of Princess Vlei into a site than can benefit nature and the community, and honour our social and cultural heritages. Secondly, ensuring that this transformation occurs with meaningful community engagement and consultation. The release of these draft plans is an important victory for our campaign, showing that the City has listened to the community and taken these views into account. We also welcome the opportunity to enable the community to comment on the plans, and to take forward the vision for Princess Vlei. We urge all those with an interest in Princess Vlei to attend these events, and make your views known. At last our vision for Princess Vlei is moving forward, but as ever we need your active participation to make that vision relevant and alive!
