The Princess Vlei Forum is delighted to announce that it was awarded special mention at the International IAP2 Core Values Awards in Sydney on 22 October. At the ceremony, the Imagine Princess Vlei project was awarded Highly Commended recognition for Outstanding Achievement in the Developing World.

This follows the our achievement in winning the Organisation of the Year in the Southern African regional IAP2 awards in August.

The IAP2 is committed to fostering the practice of meaningful public participation, and recognises groups and organisations which express the IAP2 core values in their work.

Anglo American Platinum, SRK Consulting, TTM Consulting and Yamedupi Solutions were selected for the IAP2 Federation International Project of the Year for their entry, “Alchemy: Sustainable Community Futures Beyond Mining Through Mining – Engagement leading to the Establishment of Community Development Trusts”.

The international Organisation of the Year went to the City of Melbourne.

Princess Vlei Forum is a small organisation powered entirely by volunteers and funded by small donations from supporters. It is a remarkable achievement for such an organisation to achieve this recognition.

We are extremely proud of this achievement. We believe it is further affirmation that the Imagine Princess Vlei project is a humble but inspiring pioneer in exploring how communities can be actively and meaningfully involved in shaping public spaces.

We hope that this achievement will further encourage the City of Cape Town to work with us on empowering the community to transform this space into a nature and heritage park we can all enjoy.
